Circular RNA circ-Cdr1as was identified on Arraystar CircRNA Microarray as one of the most downregulated in pro-inflammatory macrophages and significantly upregulated in anti-inflammatory macrophages [1]. Overexpression of circ-cdr1as in macrophages injected into the ischemic myocardium retains the anti-inflammatory phenotype and significantly improves left ventricular functions and reduced infarct size [2]. Systemic delivery of AAV9-circ-cdr1as has cardiac reparative activity. circ-cdr1as binds miR-7 as identified by Arraystar circRNA-miRNA target prediction, which regulates KLF4 mRNA in heart inflammation postcardiac injury (Fig.1).
