Heart diseases are a leading cause of deaths. This study elucidates the role of Mettl1 methyltransferase and m7G RNA modification in cardiac hypertrophy and heart failure [1]. m7G was found to target SRSF9/NFATc4 axis that regulates cardiac hypertrophy. During stress, transcription factor YY1 upregulates Mettl1 to modify SRSF9 mRNA with m7G, which in turn promotes intron retention splicing and stabilization of NFATc4, leading to cardiac hypertrophic growth. Arraystar Epitranscriptomic Microarray was used in this study.
