By profiling circRNA expression using Arraystar circRNA Microarray, diabetes-induced circulation associated circular RNA (DICAR) was found down regulated in diabetic mouse hearts [1]. DICAR is a regulator of cardiac dysfunction, cardiac cell hypertrophy, and cardiac fibrosis as established by KO and transgenic models. DICAR efficiently inhibits diabetic cardiomyocyte pyroptosis via valosin containing protein (VCP) blocking of Med12 protein degradation. Synthetic DICAR containing only the circular junction part (DICAR-JP) could rescue the cardiac impairments.
